About Us
A board of local citizens who know the local environmental issues manages the Juniata CCD. The Juniata CCD is governed by an eight member Board of volunteer Directors who meet the 4th Tuesday of each month, except December, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ag Service Center in Mifflintown. The public is encouraged and welcome to attend these meetings.
Four farmer directors, three public directors plus a County Commissioner make up the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are listed on the contacts page of this website.
The effectiveness of the Juniata CCD is due to our ability to network with local, state, and federal agencies to solve local environmental problems. In most cases, the District’s obligations to each agency are outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), clearly stating the role of each party. Common concerns and activities of Conservation Districts include cooperation between agencies for developing conservation plans for landowners; installation of conservation practices; wildlife management; conservation education; promotional events, erosion and sedimentation controls; administering the Chesapeake Bay Program; administering the Act 38 Nutrient Management Program, administering the Dirt & Gravel Roads Program.
