Stream Bank & Wetland Fencing Program

  1. 100% Cost Share for installation of fencing and crossings.
  2. Additional fencer and alternative watering systems available, if required.
  3. Cost Share covers installation of 2 crossings and 2 drinking accesses on an average size project.
  4. Roughly 30 feet between post (varies with terrain), 2 strand high-tensile fence, with all necessary components cost shared.
  5. Minimum of 12 to 15 feet setback from stream bank (although landowner is welcome and encourage to increase this distance and can earn credit under certain conditions towards additional Best Management Practices they would like to implement).
  6. Landowner agrees to 10 years of general maintenance of the fence and crossings.
  7. Landowner agrees to seed disturbed areas after project completion (mainly around crossings).

The main objectives of this program, funded through state and federal grants, are water quality, stream bank stabilization, and wildlife habitat.  By sacrificing a small area of pasture, the landowner reaps the advantages of cleaner drinking water for their livestock and beneficial increases in animal health.

All applicants are prioritized with relation to other applicants.  Applications are available at the Conservation District, and District employees will be glad to discuss further details with all interested parties.
